Inspiration: Dita's Hair: Edgy? Girly? or Classic?

Next Saturday is the official Ricki's Christmas party. As you can imagine, I'm pretty excited for this. Why you ask?
Well what better excuse to get all dolled up!!! Not only that, but what better excuse to buy a new dress!!

So, a week ago I went shopping at Ruby Slipper. I've never been before, so my intention was just to look around and scope the place out. And maybe see if they had any amazing tulle dresses for sale. There were a few, but none that stole my heart.
Ok, this is the exciting part. I approached a woman behind the counter (who ended up being the owner) and asked her if they had any tulle dresses other than the ones on the floor for sale. She immediatly sized me up, and started to simultaneously pass me dresses from a rack by the counter and tell me that I don't want a tulle dress because she just bought a ton of stuff from a guy who's Mom had kept everything she owned since the 40's and guess what? She wore the same size as me!! (Awesome!!)
Long story short, I tried on what feels like a million dresses and suits, all of which fit me like a glove, but there were 3 I couldn't part with. So I dropped $200 and took them home.
I do not have pictures of them yet. I just feel like a run-of-the-mill outfit post won't do them justice. They're special and deserve to be dolled up.
I'll be wearing one of them to the Christmas party next week. It's a late 40's early 50's black taffeta halter wiggle dress with beading at the neckline. So hollywood glam! So Gorgeous! Wait till you see it!!! (again, no pics and now it's at the cleaners. I even looked online for something similar to show you. Couldn't find anything remotely close)
I have the dress, I have shoes, I have the clutch and accessories. So the question remains:
How will I do my hair?

I have lined up a few options and are contemplating them all seriously. All glam inspiration in my life comes from Dita. I love her!

I like the rockabilly style of this do'. It would give the dress an edgier feel.

The girly girl in me loves the curls of this look. Very pretty, very feminine. Maybe with some sparkly brooch pinned in my hair too.

This one I feel is very sleek and glamourous. Very classic.

So those are the options I'm considering. Edgy, Girly or Classic.

I think I'm leaning towards Edgy or Girly.

Any thoughts? I know it's tough without seeing the dress, but I'd appreciate some thoughts on the hair in isolation.

My New Buddy

This post wouldn't be possible without my sister Kim. So a big shout out to her is in order!

Yesterday I came home to a small parcel in my mailbox. It was from Kim. If you remember from this post, I've been looking for a "stole with a face" for a little while now. I've found a few small mink stoles in my travels since, but none of them felt like they were mine.

Well that's because he was with Kim! In her letter she said she bought him at Value Village 3 years ago and he's been living with her since. When she read my blog she called Mom to get my address and sent him to me! I had no idea!!! It was such a lovely surprise! I was giddy all night!!! I'm still excited!! See these exclamation marks!! <--- !!

Isn't he great! He's so perfect! Just like the one in the picture from The Sartorialist I love!

I wore this outfit on Thursday. My office swings wildly from boiling hot to freezing and back again, so thoughtful dressing is a must. Here's the dress with sweater (which I wore in the morning) and when the mercury rose in the afternoon I wore it sans sweater. These are also pretty good shots of my new haircut the way my stylist intended it to be.

Puppy Bloopers

Taking outfit photos with my camera's timer has proven to be a little tricky with a very busy boxer puppy at home. Dave is forever getting in the way of my shots.

I couldn't help but post these since he was particularly busy this afternoon while I was shooting "One Dress, Three Ways". He's very interested in the beeping noise the camera makes when it's counting down and I think he thought we were going for a walk when I put my hat and scarf on for the last outfit. I only had a few photos of that outfit without him in them! We went for a walk as soon as I was done.

Isn't he cute? Our world revolves around that cute little monster!

One Dress, Three Ways: 50's Purple Print

Before I get started I want to give credit where credit is due. This is obviously not a new idea, but I have been officially inspired by Sally Jane Vintage and her "Four Ways" posts.

I am a great collector of clothes. Getting rid of clothes kills me!! Becuase of this I am always dreaming up new ways to wear the clothes that I have, so making a series like this one just seems right!

This is the first of many "One Dress, Three Ways" posts! I currently have more than 80 dresses in my collection (most of them vintage) and I will be showcasing my favorites.

This is an altered 1950's bridesmaid dress. It used to be floorlength, but I've hemmed it, removed the built in bullet bra and taken in the bust darts. I bought it at Ragpickers.

Wishlist: Dress Form

I wasn't expecting to write another Wishlist post, but being the cool girl that I am, I spent yesterday night at home surfing Kijiji and Craigslist for a used dress form.

It's close to Christmas, maybe I could use another Wishlist post (Mom, are you reading this? haha!).

When I worked at Harlequin Costume and Dance they had a few like this one. I would practically kill for one of these!! So cool and industrial!

This is another little item I have wanted for some time. In fact I would take a new or vintage dress form. Vintage would of course be prefered, but if the price was right I would buy a new one. Now I know they're out there...I just have to save my little pennies and actually buy one...I've never been good at saving money...

I have considered making one. There are a couple of great tutorials here at Threads Magazine for those of us who are crafty and on a budget.

Wishlist: 50's Tulle Prom Dress

I have always wanted a tulle prom dress! Frothy, pretty, girly, decadent pieces; always filled with vintage memories as they were always bought for a special occasion! Mmmm.....

I owned once once (it was given to me by a friend of a friend in a garbage bag full of vintage clothes that were headed for the dump), but it had a 23" waist and I do not have a 23" waist! So I consigned it at Ragpickers while I worked there and sold it to a young girl who wore it to her grade 8 grad. That made me happy!

Anyway, I still want one (that fits me!)! I don't know where I'd wear it. I do have the Christmas party for work to go to in December, but what are the odds I'll find one that a) I can afford b) fits me and c) I absolutely cannot live without before December 5th?
Who knows, miracles do happen!
