I'm Chancing It

I work today...and I'm chancing a dress.

I had a lovely suggestion the other day from Periwinkle Dzyns that I wear a vintage apron over my dress at work to keep it clean. Some days this would work well...on others, due to the sort of work I end up doing, pants are really a must. Summer at the shop can be really slow and it's the perfect time to do all sorts of dirty cleaning projects.

But today I'm wearing a dress. Dirty projects be damned!

This is one of the dresses I had altered the other day. My tailor lifted the waist a little and took it in. I'm thrilled with how it turned out!

Also! I bought this leather satchel at Value Village along with a few other goodies. I just adore it! And I think it looks just perfect with these shoes.

Vintage (I think 40's?) Necklace: Ragpickers
50's Dress: Ruby Slipper
Peep Toe Shoes: Kenzie
Leather Satchel: Thrifted, Value Village

I'm so proud of myself for sticking to my promise and posting every day so far this month! I'm in the home stretch! :)

Aahhh...That's Better

Wow! Was I in a funk yesterday! Thanks for bearing with me...thankfully the weather held and my mood has improved as well.

I wore the other dress I hemmed today. Here's the side by side comparison:

Again, I didn't hem this one a lot either. I did take it up 3 1/4", which sounds like a lot, but looks subtle in the photos. I do think it looks more proportional. I'm very happy that I did it.

Here's how I wore it today:

I just love this dress. I bought it in university while I worked at Ragpickers. It was one of the first vintage dresses I ever bought. It was made by a home ec teacher in the 50's. Sadly I don't have the belt. I always wonder if it was striped or solid.

Flower Brooch: Ricki's
Cat Eye Sunglasses: Le Chateau
50's Cotton Dress: Ragpickers
Belt: Ragpickers
Silver Bangles: Gift
Rainbow Peep Toe Wedges: Damita K
Vintage Straw Purse: Thrifted
Thank you so much for your comments on yesterdays post! They cheered me up!

Meh.

It's another work/rehearsal day and I'm tired already for some reason.

I had such a hard time figuring out what to wear...the lure of a dress was almost too much to ignore, but if I ruined one of my dresses at work I would be devastated. So I've come up with something else...I'll be honest...after agonizing over my closet again today I don't care if I picked out a potato sack.

This is a close second to that:

Ok...it's not horrible...but I've done better...

Most importantly though, let's have a look at my new vintage tooled leather purse I snagged for $19 at Value Village! Oooo! Ahhhh!

It's mint. And I love it.
I'm hoping it will save this lame outfit.

Thank god I have tomorrow off...I'm hoping the weather stays cheery and that my disposition warms up too.

Feeling Blue with Cold Knees

It's raining again today. But I couldn't bear to wear pants for another day in a row. I was sifting through some of my blog photo archives and when I realized I was wearing dresses and skirts in -30 weather I thought "You wuss, wear a damn dress today! It's just raining!"

And I am a wuss...my knees were cold today while I was out...lol!!

This is what I wore:

I've been wearing a lot of blue lately. It's funny...when I was 17/18 I had lots of blue in my wardrobe and at some point when I turned 19 it was banished. I gave away everything blue in my closet and stopped buying anything blue.
At some point in the last year I've fallen back in love with blue and navy. I don't really know what happened. But I'm glad it did. And now (as you can see) I wear blue almost every day!

Leopard Print Scarf: Ricki's
Brooches: Thrifted
Sequin Tank: Ricki's Sample Sale
Grey Jersey Dress: Forever 21
Vintage Leather Shoulder Bag: Ragpickers
Navy Knee Socks: Dollar Store!
Denim Wedge Sandles: George (Walmart)

P.S. I did a little thrifting this afternoon and came home with some awesome goodies I can't wait to share with you! Stay Tuned!

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Well, here's another work outfit with nautical flair (told you I was obssessed).

I can't wait until the weather is really warm (like Sunday) so I can wear more of my dresses. (Dirty work projects don't help this cause...a dress at the costume shop is so impractical...boo...)

I've got rehearsal after work tonight...we're less than a month away from Fringe and I'm not sure if I'm excited or nervous...maybe both...

Striped Tee: Thrifted
40's Glass Bead Necklace: Mike's General Store
Pants: Joe Fresh
Club Med Bag: Thrifted
Red Strappy Shoes: Thrifted

Happy First Day of Summer! Yeah!! :)

Today's Outfit Offering

It's so amazing outside today! Hot with just enough wind. Awesome!

I've been dying to wear this dress. It's not my usual 50's style, but there was just something so easy about it that I couldn't resist.
I also love the boarder print and asymetrical hem. So cute!

Hair Flower: Claire's
70's Border Print Dress: Thrifted, Value Village ($6!!)
Beaded Straw Clutch: Thrifted, Value Village
Knit Flower Wedges: The Bay

I hemmed the other dress yesterday evening. I was on such a roll I did another dress right after!!
I'll post some photos this week, it's just too nice out to waste the day indoors blogging! Gotta Go!!

How Yesterday Panned Out (Plus Today's Outfit!)

Well here's how I did yesterday:

1. Hem a few vintage dresses. I'm ambitiously hoping to do two. I'll probably get one done.  - Ok. I did only get one done. I've got the second dress prepped to be hemmed, but I did't have the right colour of thread! I've borrowed the right colour from work and will hem the other one tonight. So close

Before

After

I really didn't want to hem it too much. I still wanted it to feel like a vintage 50's dress, not short like the modern repros that are out in the world right now. I'm really pleased with the results and feel like the dress looks much more proportional on me now. I don't feel like I'm drowning in the long skirt.
2. Bake some bread. (In the bread machine! hehe!) I started the day off with this one. To get my momentum.
3. Do some laundry
4. Take some dresses to my tailor to get altered.
5. Swiffer (the dog hair likes to collect when I'm not watching)
6. Change the bedding in the Master Bedroom Sunday...everything is bumped to Sunday...
7. Buy a few groceries I forgot to add to my list this weekend
8. Get my hair cut (I have an appointment at 6:30 tonight!)
9. Start sanding my dining room table (this one will probably be bumped to Sunday) Yup, Sunday it is...
10. Take Dave for a walk
11. Post photos of hemmed dress(es?) Didn't make it back home in time last night to get this one done. Today will have to do...I'll post a photo of the other dress this weekend after I hem the other dress.

Not too bad huh? And I felt pretty rested! Yeah for productive days! :)

And today's outfit. It's so gloriously warm out right now this is what I'm wearing:

BTW. What do you think of my hair? Subtle, but good. I really like the bangs! I'm just not used to wearing my hair so straight! Feels so modern! lol!

Butterfly Earrings: Gift
60's Mini Dress: Ruby Slipper
White Belt: Vintage Glory

Another Friday Off, Another List of Projects

I've got today off again. And as usual, I'm wildly ambitious about what I want to accomplish today.

Here's the List:

1. Hem a few vintage dresses. I'm ambitiously hoping to do two. I'll probably get one done.
2. Bake some bread. (In the bread machine! hehe!)
3. Do some laundry
4. Take some dresses to my tailor to get altered.
5. Swiffer (the dog hair likes to collect when I'm not watching)
6. Change the bedding in the Master Bedroom
7. Buy a few groceries I forgot to add to my list this weekend
8. Get my hair cut (I have an appointment at 6:30 tonight!)
9. Start sanding my dining room table (this one will probably be bumped to Sunday)
10. Take Dave for a walk

Ok...when I write it alldown it doesn't seem sooo bad...I get distracted by the t.v. and the computer though. I'm a big believer in rest and over the years have forced myself to take a breather on my days off (I used to go so hard that I'd never stop and only "rest" when I got deathly ill). Sometimes this now works against me. But I don't get nearly as sick as often!

Here are the two dresses I'm hoping to hem today:

Here are the ones I'm taking to the tailor:

You can see them on me here and here.

I'm also hoping to take 'after' photos of the dress(es?) that I get hemmed today and post them later. I guess that's number 11 on the list.

Wish me luck!

This Morning Just Didn't Seem So Bad...

I'm just as pressed for time this morning and somehow I'm not in the funk I was yesterday. It might just be due to the sun shining. Which means I get to wear one of my favorite vintage dresses!

Green Cardigan: Le Chateau
50's Plaid Dress: Vintage Glory
Belt: came with the dress
Silver Bracelets: Gift
Wedges: The Bay

See you tomorrow! :)
