Outfits: Pre-Birthday Dress

Tomorrow is my birthday. We're just about to round up the dogs and head to my Mom's for dinner.

It's a ridiculous 40 degrees Celsius with the humidity today. That might bother some people, but I love it. The hotter the better! And I knew just the dress to wear.
This dress was a serious impulse purchase.  I was browsing through Etsy on my phone during a show I was stage managing last winter. It popped up at $30 and I knew it would be perfect for summer. And at that price I couldn't go wrong. After shipping I paid less than $40 for this gorgeous dress and I couldn't be happier. It's in incredible condition and it's perfect for hot summer days like today.

Outfits: Rockabilly Casual

I feel like my style has been evolving again lately...maybe evolving is the wrong word. Settling? I dunno...I guess it's been happening for a while.
Over the past few years I've been edging towards a more rockabilly look. I feel quite comfortable in it. Rockabilly can be dressy, but it can also be casual and it has a bit of an edge. I like a look with an edge and frankly, there aren't many black tie galas in my life. lol!

I haven't been posting a lot of outfits here in the last few months. Work has kept me busy and I always worry that you'll grow bored of seeing me in jeans and a tee-shirt again and again, but that's my life and that's how I dress day to day. I keep trying to tell myself that I should post those looks here. They are no less worthy of the blog than a dress.

Outfits: I'm Outside! And a 'New' Dress

I'm thrilled to have taken today's outfit post outside (beneath the shade of the pine trees in our backyard to be exact), courtesy of my new tripod!

I also excited to show you the newest addition to my vintage dress collection from Dear Golden. I showed you the etsy photos a few weeks ago, but had to take it to the tailor to have it taken up and in a little. I'm a bit short waisted so I have to have many of my dresses taken up in the waistline in order for them to fit properly. I also had about 2 1/2" removed from the hem of the dress. Now it's perfect!

I clearly need to get used to taking photos outside...my camera settings need some tweeking I think...

I just realized I'm wearing an item from each of my grandmother's in this outfit! My Glasses are from my Grandma Cotton and my belt was a given to me by my Grandma Nelson! Awww! That makes me smile..

My sandals are new too. I never liked really those strappy gladiator style sandals, but this newer, simpler version that is trendy now is perfect. I knew I wanted a metallic pair to wear with dresses during the day. I found this pair at Winners for a song. I love the warm rose metallic colour - they go with everything and are very low key. I almost look barefoot in these photos! And I couldn't resist the filagreed metal (yes - it's metal!) detail on the toe.

Dave (our 4 year old Boxer - for new readers!) really enjoyed running around the yard like a maniac while I took these photos! haha!

This weekend is the Canada Day (July 1st) long weekend and I've got 1 1/2 days of work left! Things are looking up!

What are you up to this weekend?

Simplicity

I am craving simplicity these days. My house seems too full, my closet seems too full, there is just too much to do. I'm sure you all feel my pain. When life is like this I tend to clean. I think my basement and my closet are on my hit-list this week....

As the weather warms I also crave simpler dress. The beautiful weather in Israel was a real tease...I have been dying to just throw on a dress and some heels sans tights etc...
Today was actually warm enough to do so.

I think I'm actually a lazy dresser. That's why I love dresses so much. It's just so easy to look put together. No fuss, no muss. Throw it on and you look like you've tried so hard.

I haven't worn this dress in a year or two. I've worn it on the blog before. I bought it for $1 in Gimli years ago. It's choice was inspired by Solanah in this dress today. Beautiful and simple. Perfect.

Speaking of simplicity, I've been simplifying my look these days too. Although I'm wearing eyeliner today, I've been forgoing it recently. I really like how fresh faced I look without it. I'll be sure to show you soon.

I've also been curling my hair a lot less. I've been braiding it loosely at night and wearing it down and wavy during the day. My hair looks healthier and I only spend 1/2 hour getting ready instead of a full hour. It's nice.

Is it just me, or have you been craving simplicity? How are you taking care of this craving?

Sweet and Simple

I haven't worn this dress in ages! For some reason it always gets passed over in my closet.

It's a great dress though, very comfortable and not too dressy for day.

The heat wave in Winnipeg continues, so I'm keeping it simple today: Shoes, Dress, bracelets. Nothing constricting or too fancy. I'm just going to work after all.

Speaking of work, I've got less than a month left at Harlequin before I start Stage Managing again! Woo Hoo! Can't wait! I am literally counting down the days.

Today's Outfit Offering

It's so amazing outside today! Hot with just enough wind. Awesome!

I've been dying to wear this dress. It's not my usual 50's style, but there was just something so easy about it that I couldn't resist.
I also love the boarder print and asymetrical hem. So cute!

I'm just as pressed for time this morning and somehow I'm not in the funk I was yesterday. It might just be due to the sun shining. Which means I get to wear one of my favorite vintage dresses!

Oufits: High Collars and Pearls

I'm posting this far later than I was hoping to. Dinner with The Boy's family ran late, then we had to go to the drug store for deodorant and cough medicine. Right Guard doesn't make the kind of deodorant The Boy usually wears anymore so we spent at least 20 minutes smelling every kind of men's anti-persperant available. (For the record, I would never want my man to smell like The Old Spice Man. The new scents are not that good in my opinion.) So it took us longer to get home than I thought it would.

But I digress...this is what I wore to work today.

This outfit was the result of me not wanting to wear anything too involved or complicated today. The days are starting to be cool as well so a sweater was in order. So I thought classic and a little preppy fit the bill nicely.

Check out my new lipstick! I bought  Viva Glam Cyndi from the MAC store on Sunday! Love it! It's beautiful coral/berry shade. Perfect for daytime. I've worn it everyday.

Outfits: $1 Dress

I love this dress! I bought it for $1 dollar at the Gimli Thrift store! Score! It's a 70's take on ther 40's. I have a few pieces like this in my wardrobe.

I'm wearing this to work today (I really match my walls and my curtains today! What can I say? I love green!):

Pink Brooch: Thrifted
Green Cardigan: Smart Set
70's Floral Dress: Thrifted
White Belt: Thrifted
White Socks: Walmart
80's Burgandy Shell Purse: Ragpickers

TGIF! (Plus! Happy Labour Day weekend to all of you in Canada and the States!) Tonight The Boy and I are off to night racing at the Gimli Speedway. (This is a Gimli filled post then isn't it?) I will be wearing something more appropriate to cool evenings and bugs.

Outfits: Inspired Layering

I saw this outfit on Keiko Lynn's blog the other day and LOVED it!

So, of course I had to re-create my own version of it. Surprisingly enough it was raining here today! I don't own a coloured open cardigan, so I wore a coloured dress and wore one of my black cardigans instead.

I just bought the purse at Goodwill the other day and had to wear them with these shoes. Is it wrong to wear matching patent shoes and purse? I don't really care... I already did it. :P

I love these shoes. I call them my witchy shoes. I feel like the belonged to the Wicked Witch of the West. "I'll get you my pretty!" haha!

Vintage Rhinestone Earrings: Thrifted (bought last week for $4 at Goodwill!!)

Purple Tights: Walmart
Pink Leather Belt: Thrifted
60's Black Patent Mary Janes: Ragpickers
