B&B Bonanza Pt. 3

I've saved the best, coolest house for last! Silver Creek may have been my favourite house due to its homeyness, but the Straw Bale House at Room to Grow in Boissevain, Manitoba was by far the coolest place we stayed.

It was so different from the other houses we stayed in. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

The house walls are built from straw bales and plaster. All of the other building material and furnishings are salvage and repurposed items. It's a remarkable place! The house is heated from a wood stove.

The house was surrounded by animals! I loved it!

This feeder was right outside the living room window.

This is Jupiter (the black lab), who is expecting her second litter and Calvin (the Golden Lab/Great Pyrenees). They were incredibly sweet pups!

The horse pasture was visible from the house.

This was my room.

Some details:

The house was filled with books.

Hope you've enjoyed my B&B tour!

B&B Bonanza Pt. 2

Here's part two of my B&B show and tell from our tour! Click here for part one!

This is the Silver Creek B&B in Silverton (right outside of Russell, Manitoba). It is an Eaton's catalogue house built in 1906.

This must have been my favourite B&B. I wish I would have taken more photos, but I was busy enjoying my stay there instead.
These photos just do not do this house justice. It was homey, rustic and had beautiful old farmhouse touches everywhere.

This was my room.

The kitchen. It had great mid-century cupboards. Again, this photo just doesn't do it justice...

This is the next B&B we stayed in. This is Tilson Place in Minnedosa, Manitoba. This is another big beautiful heritage home built in 1901.

This was my room. Princess Bed!

So that concludes part two of my B&B tour. I've got one last part coming your way tomorrow!

B&B Bonanza Pt. 1

I have been dying to to share these photos with you!

We had the pleasure of staying in some amazing Bed and Breakfast's while we were on tour. The homes we stayed in where in all shapes and sizes.

I've always wanted to live in a character home, but when buying our home The Boy and I decided that we couldn't afford to fix one up properly (if you live in one, you know they can come with a myriad of structural and internal issues) so we decided to buy a "newer" home (ours was built in 1974).

Staying in all of these older homes reminded me how much I always wanted to live in one and was a real treat! I spent a lot of time in each home taking in all of the beautiful details within. I've taken a ton of pictures, so I'll have to share them with you in a couple posts.

This is Patrick Place. We stayed here while we were in Yorkton, Saskatchewan two weeks ago. It was built in 1911 by a very prominent family living in Yorkton. For more of the home's heritage click here.

Sitting Room

Original fireplace. Still chimes every 72 hours! We didn't get to hear it though.

My room.

The vanity in my room.

My bathroom.

The gang!

Stay tuned for part 2 (maybe a part 3 too!).

Thrifting Motherload!

We're in Brandon this weekend, staying with Heather's family in their lovely 1906 heritage home.

We have the weekend off (the first two full days off since the beginning of January!), so I took one of our vehicles and hit every thrift shop in town!

I hit the motherload! Not only was the vintage plentiful, it was inexpensive! I bought way more than I had planned.
Here's some of my loot:

This was a Value Village find. I couldn't resist the colour and the tiny coin purse attached with a chain!

This slip is the palest blue. The details on the bust and hem are so pretty! I can't wait to wear it!

This pretty brooch is so much lovelier in person. It's so sparkly, I wish I could have captured that on camera.

I'm not sure the date of this blazer, but I have other ladies suits from this label and I loved the cranberry colour. I wonder if it came with a skirt or pants?

I could not for the life of me get a good picture of this faux fur coat. I had a serious debate with myself whether I was going to buy it or not, but it fit me so nicely I couldn't leave it in the store.

This set was $9. And the shoes fit me. Had to have 'em!

And I've saved the best for last. My heart started to race when I found this 50's prom dress on the rack at Value Village. It is in mint condition! Plus, it was (you'll never believe this) $10!! I think I might get into it with some shapewear, but maybe not...either way I had to have it.

And this isn't even everything I bought and spent less than $100! I have some other goodies, but I'll show them to you tomorrow.

Happy Sunday!
