Outfits: Looking a Little Christmas-y

I had a meeting with some fellow Shakespeare in the Ruins ensemble members (after 3 years of stage managing for them they asked me to be a member this summer!).  I've been dressing so casually lately I felt really dressed up in this outfit.

Once I was out I realized how Christmas-y this outfit is with the green and the rhinestones on the sweater. I'm ok with it though. It's subtle.

I love this sweater. I bought it for $5 at Value Village. I nearly fell over when I plucked it off the rack. It's a combination of my favourite things: black and sparkly. And can we talk about my slip for a moment? I know it might be a bit hard to see in that last photo, but the green polka dots on it are an exact match to my skirt. Match made in vintage heaven.

Outfits: 60's Blue & Green Border Print Dress

I bought this dress from Patti at WildWoodRose Vintage in the Exchange Uporium - a pop up shop in downtown Winnipeg featuring Winnipeg Etsy sellers.

I was on my self imposed "no shopping fast" when I fell in love with this dress on the rack and instantly knew I was destined to cheat on my rule before I even tried it on. It has all my favourite colours (I mean, really...check out my house for proof). It's my favourite style: 50's/late 60's cotton sundress with a full skirt and it fits like a glove. Sorry rule...I had to have it.

No regrets. Look how freakin' cute it is!!!!!!

The funny thing is that I already own a blue and green cotton sundress. I try not to buy too many similar dresses, but this one is juuuust different enough that I let that rule go too. Plus I knew I had many killer accessories (interchangeable between dresses) to go with this beauty.

My hair is getting CRAZY long isn't it?! I need a trim - August, but I also wonder if it's time to get it cut shoulder-lengthish...probably not gonna happen yet. I'm not ready..

Outfits: My Dream Coat and a Quick Hello

Hello!! It's been a week or so since I've showed my face 'round these parts. I've been busy with lots of things.

Work has started up again. We open officially in a week. I'm currently working at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre on this show(they have a strict social media policy, so that link is all I'll be posting in regards to this project -it's fantastic though and if you live in Winnipeg I highly recommend it). So, as usual, work is keeping me pretty busy.

This past weekend I was interviewed by Shaw TV Winnipeg as part of a new series featuring Winnipeg bloggers. That was incredibly exciting! We did some thrift shopping and then shot some clips at my house too. I will be sure to let you know when the episode airs and post a vid or a link! Many, many hours were spent scrutinizing my outfit...let me tell you! haha!

Otherwise, it's been business as usual - trying to juggle time with friends and family with my busy work schedule, as well as trying to keep the "blogger guilt" at bay as I found myself too busy to post.

Oh! And the snow has finally settled in to stay here. So I finally got to wear my Vintage Dream Coat. Big smiles over here about that.

Monday, Monday...

Here I am looking cheeky this morning for the first of this weeks series of outfits! lol!

This is a typical work look: Modern shirt and pants with vintage touches. The necklace is a vintage 60's  rhinestone and beaded beauty I picked up at Value Village (I couldn't resist the sparkle!). I also love a little tough girl element to any outfit. This would be the studded belt here. And flats. Gotta wear flats to work (unfortunately), so I have a lot of them. I love the vintage feel these brogues give to this outfit (which are a bit hard to see on the bold carpet in my dressing room). Hair is up because I slept in (hello...monday.) and it needs to be washed!

So there you have it folks! Day one! See you tomorrow!

Outfits: Variations on a Theme

Another outfit from the road (although we're in town for the weekend!). As you can see, this one is similar to the one I showed you last week.
It's a fail-proof formula really: cute beret, tee-shirt, cardigan, skinny jeans, vintage jewelry, boots. I have a number of these outfits in my suitcase.

What you don't see here is how many layers I'm actually wearing. Under the cardigan, the tee-shirt and the white long sleeve tee shirt is a tank top. Under my jeans are thermal long johns and under my boots are thermal socks. Sometimes I wear another pair of knee high socks over the thermals. And often I will layer on a scarf if the gym we're performing in is cold.

As you can see, I did manage to wear my new necklace. I thought maybe when I bought it, it was too fancy to wear out in rural Manitoba. Nope! Nothing like a tee-shirt and rhinestones!

Vintage Rhinestone Necklace: thrifted in Swan River
Aqua Tee Shirt: thrifted

We head back out for the next leg of the tour on Sunday. It's a shorter stint this time - only a week and a half.

Outfits: Heat Wave

It was so hot out last Saturday! +26 degrees Celsius! I've been wearing fall coats, hats and scarves for weeks now and suddenly I was wearing  a dress and open toed shoes!

Sadly it's cooled back down a bit, but it was lovely while it lasted. Edit: I scheduled this post a few days ago assuming it would cool down, but it is in fact snowing here in Winnipeg today and I am totally amused at the irony of posting this summery outfit on the first snowfall of the season! Ah Winnipeg...

The Boy and I ran some errands on Saturday in the morning and had planned on going for a bike ride, but got distracted and it never happened. Ah well...good intentions...

This dress is a 40's housedress I bought at Ragpickers. Another one I bought years ago before I really started to hoard collect.
You've seen these shoes before. I bought them for and wore them to K & D's wedding in June.

Also! Did you notice my eyes are a little more naked than usual? I am not wearing eye liner! In fact, I've been forgoing eye liner during the day more and more these days. It felt a little weird at first. I find if I apply a little more blush my face doesn't look so pale. In actuality like it a lot! I feel like it makes me look fresh and pretty.
And as you can see, I have not cut my bangs. I'm leaving them until I actually figure out what I want to do with my hair and go the the hairdresser.

Outfits: Something That's Not Blue!

I wore this out to dinner with The Boy and a friend of ours and his daughter yesterday night. I actually spent most of the day in a dirty t-shirt and jeans with my hair in a bun and no make-up cleaning the house.
Glamorous no?

It still feels like a million degrees outside here and dressing cool is imperative. I've never worn this outfit before and I really like it!

As you know, I tend to be very matchy-matchy with my outfits, but from time to time I like to try something different: like wearing turquoise shoes with a green top. It's my subtle version of colour blocking. :)

Isn't this necklace awesome?! It's new! I bought it at Le Chateau this spring. I was powerless against it's awesomeness and could not leave the store without it. It also came in red (it was really hard to decide! I almost bought both...because I'm insane like that).

Outfits: The Not-So-Lazy, Lazy Day Outfit

This is what I wore last Sunday when I went out to Ruby Slipper with my Mom. It was deadly cold out for the end of April and I was feeling lazy. Jeans and a Tee shirt dressed up it was. I even had dirty hair. lol!

I am addicted to styling my hair in a sock bun! I first found out about this easy, chic hairstyle c/o Kendi Everyday who credited The Other Emily (click here for the tutorial for the amazing Sock Bun!). Pure genius!

So ya...the best way to look chic and be lazy in my opinion is to wear a sock on your head and wrap it in a cotton vintage handkerchief, throw a vintage blazer over your tee and be sure not to wear runners. Voila!

Not-So-Lazy, Lazy!

Israel: What I Wore

Today I thought I'd post something a little different from my trip in Israel.

I managed to take outfit photos on one day of my trip. It was so hot in the afternoons there, it was so nice to have a week of easy summer dressing!  Now I'm back to spring coats and scarves I can't wait till the weather warms up in Winnipeg.

Fall is Perfect for Layering

I just love this time of year. Lots of layers are required to stay warm and you don't have to hide them yet under a heavy coat. You can really go out and show off your outfits!

Today I headed out to meet the stage manager at the rehearsal hall to begin set up for our rehearsals (which start on Monday!).

This is what I wore:

This outfit embodies all of my favorites: a mix of modern and vintage with a feminine touches, yet a funky edge. Perfection!

Perfect Fall Day

It is just glorious outside today! The air is fresh and crisp, the sun is shining and there is a slight breeze. The perfect fall day.

I had a few errands to run this afternoon. I met the co-ordinator of the Costume Museum Fashion Show so I could pick up a few costumes that need mending and cleaning before our next fashion show and my fridge was in desperate need of groceries, so that was on my list too.

This is what I wore out and about:

A tee shirt and a skirt is my favorite go-to for fall and winter. It never fails to look good and be comfortable. When the weather cools down some more all this outfit needs is tights, a slip. Easy!

I'm Chancing It

I work today...and I'm chancing a dress.

I had a lovely suggestion the other day from Periwinkle Dzyns that I wear a vintage apron over my dress at work to keep it clean. Some days this would work well...on others, due to the sort of work I end up doing, pants are really a must. Summer at the shop can be really slow and it's the perfect time to do all sorts of dirty cleaning projects.

But today I'm wearing a dress. Dirty projects be damned!

This is one of the dresses I had altered the other day. My tailor lifted the waist a little and took it in. I'm thrilled with how it turned out!

Also! I bought this leather satchel at Value Village along with a few other goodies. I just adore it! And I think it looks just perfect with these shoes.

Vintage (I think 40's?) Necklace: Ragpickers
50's Dress: Ruby Slipper
Peep Toe Shoes: Kenzie
Leather Satchel: Thrifted, Value Village

I'm so proud of myself for sticking to my promise and posting every day so far this month! I'm in the home stretch! :)
