Inspiration: Dita Von Teese - Winter Chic

As we settle into winter I have been fighting the urge to hibernate in jeans and long sleeve t-shirts layered under sweaters. Chic, cozy, winter dressing is possible and who better to gain inspiration from than Dita?

Here are my pics for chic winter dressing via the Queen of Burlesque:

I LOVE this look - particularly because I am smitten with the resurgence of the tea length skirt this winter. I would, of course, add tights to this outfit.

Surprise, surprise, an all black outfit. I would wager that nothing Ms Von Teese is wearing in this photos is actual vintage, but look at the power of a curled 'do and a red lip - it adds instant old world glamour to black sweater and skirt.

It would be blasphemy not to include a look with a great coat - since in my part of the world it's the fashion item most people see in the winter when you're out and about. As far as I'm concerned you MUST have a great winter coat and co-ordinating accessories. It's a fashion saver for any manner of outfit. I love this military inspired coat paired with thick tights and pretty shoes.

Yup, Still Here

Hello friends! Did you miss me? I didn't realize I'd been away for an entire month until my readers, family and friends started asking if I was:  a.deleting the blog,   b.if something happened to keep me away   or  c.lost my hands and can't type (no, i made that last one up..).

Well, actually, it's none of the above. I lost my blogging mojo on my last stressful Stage Managing job! I've been distracted by my new job and other things in life. But enough with the excuses, I was gone for a month from the blog and the world didn't end, so I'm now convinced life doesn't revolve around me (ok, mostly convinced. lol!).

Here's what you've missed in no particular order:

Work
I'm Stage Managing for Prairie Theatre Exchange right now for their annual Christmas kids show based on the books of Canadian kids author Robert Munsch.

Tickets are still available on select shows here!

Things have been going well! I've been putting in 10-12 hour days for most of December, but the cast and crew have been just delightful to work for/with. That makes the long hours so much more bearable. We just had 3 days off for Christmas and we're back at it again today.
I't a great show for kids of all ages! I'm still laughing at it after having watched it at least 2-3 dozen times already.

Home
Hasn't been much going on...mostly because all I do there right now is sleep...

Although I don't look this good when I'm sleeping at home. lol!

Christmas
Again, it's been a little different than any other year due to my crazy work schedule. I didn't make Christmas cards or even put up the tree this year! I'd show you a picture to prove it, but it would just look like my house does the rest of the year. (If you're a new reader and you'd like to sneak a peek at our Christmas decorations you can check out these posts from the last few years.)

The Boy did get me the best present though! He surprised me with a brand new iPhone a week before Christmas! I've been wanting one for over a year now, but just couldn't afford the payment until now.

We had a really nice Christmas this year! Stay Tuned for my annual gift show and tell post soon!

Anything Else?
The Boy and I just finished babysitting K&D's dog Kona while they honemooned in Thailand.

We enjoyed having two dogs in the house so much we're seriously contemplating adding another furry member to the family in the new year!
Otherwise, things have been work, work, work...

I'll be working hard to post more regularly.. I missed you guys!

I'll be back sooner rather than later!

Fickle Head

Not even three months ago I cut my own bangs. I've trimmed them once since and once again they're in my eyes. So much so that I've been wearing them like this for the last three days:

I can't decide whether to cut them again or let them grow out...

In fact my whole head needs an overhaul. My hair is super long right now. It's all the same length and is in desperate need of a trim. Or a cut. I just can't decide what to do with it.

Here it is air dried with no styling. Looks rough, I think.

I'm actually thinking about cutting it much shorter. probably around my shoulders like this
(sorry guys, I have no sources for these photos, I've been collecting them for weeks. Let me know if you know the source or if one of these belongs to you and you'd like it removed. Thanks!)

I really love Marilyn's hair in this photo. I could totally rock this with my grown out bangs.

Or maybe chin length like this

These are kinda like my hair from a few years ago. Here's the proof:

Or maybe I'll completely chicken out and just get a trim and some layer put in

I really can't decide right now. I'm always up for something pretty drastic in my head, but I worry about regretting my decision after I get my hair cut.

I've been hating my hair, which is why I cut bangs. It was always a temporary solution. I can't afford a real haircut (and by real I mean done by a professional) until I get back to work in October so I have some time to think about it.

What do you think?

Inspiration: Dita Casual

I'm on a bit of a Dita kick these days. Mostly because I just pre-ordered her new beauty book "Your Beauty Mark" on Amazon the other day. (I'm so excited!!!)

As much as I love Dita when she's fully glamed out, I love her even more in her casual looks. Especially in the summer because I can emulate these looks easily.

Here are some of my favourites:

Sorry folks, I'm not entirely sure where most of these came from. Probably Just Jared...cause I'm a creep like that...let me know if you know where a photo came from and I'll link to them. Or if one of these photos is yours and you don't want it posted here let me know and I'll remove it!

Christmas Loot 2011

As promised, here are the present highlights from this year.

I received this beautiful wine decanter and bottle of wine from The Boy's family. I have always wanted a nice wine decanter. I can also imagine serving juice in this or filling it with flowers on a table. The shape is so pretty.

If you like red wine I would highly recommend Cupcake Red Velvet. The back of the bottle reads:

Our Red Velvet is made up of grapes from some of the finest vineyards in California. This wine shows a heady nose of chocolate, deep rich blackberries, red fruits, and a creamy mocha finish that is unmistakable in its intensity and length. It's reminiscent of a blackberry chocolate cupcake with a mocha coulis. Enjoy with sweet and spicy Hoison steak, a barbeque bacon cheeseburger or even dark chocolate fondue.

Couldn't say it better myself! So good! Even just to drink by itself. It's my new favourite red. And isn't the label just gorgeous? Great gift and it's under $20 a bottle.

Speaking of alcoholic beverages, The Boy's brother gave me this cute little gift for my Gin and Tonics. It's an ice cube tray!! I can't wait to make them.

I've been wanting some BPA free glass kitchen storage containers for a while. I got these from my family. And I'm really excited about the cook book. There are some yummy looking recipes in it. It may just save me from dinner anxiety when I get back to work in the new year!

I have been in need of some new leather gloves as well. My Mom bought me these. I LOVE them! I can't wait to wear them with some of the vintage bracelet sleeve jackets I have.

I have, of course, saved the best for last. My sister Kim is the best. She reads my blog and bought me the Dita flipbooks I posted about last week! I was elated when I opened them! Best gift of the year! Thanks Kim!!

I, of course, got the usual socks, some chocolate and a $25 gift card for Chapters.

That's it for the Christmas posts for this year!

Did you get everything you asked for this Christmas? Or did your family surprise you with something you didn't ask for, but wanted anyway? Did you get any quirky gifts like my titanic and iceberg ice tray? Do tell!

Dita: Long Hair Inspiration

It's no secret I love Dita Von Teese. (I did post about her earlier this week!)

While scrolling through my folder of saved images of her I noticed how many I had saved of her with lovely, long, wavy tresses.

My hair is getting long and I'd like to think I'm awfully close to getting my hair to look like Dita's does in these photos.

I want to look like this every day!

Love this photo of her with little eye makeup on. Still gorgeous!

Had to share this one of the pin curls.

I'm planning on heading to my hairdresser in the new year with these photos in hand so I can help my hair get a better curl in it.

Photos are all via either Just Jared or Enchanted by Dita

Wishlist: Dita: Stripteese

I have Dita's first book: Burlesque and the Art of the Teese/Fetish and the Art of the Teese. I, however, do not have her set of flipbooks: Dita: Stripteese

And I would like them.

I'm silly and didn't ask for them for Christmas, but I'm a big girl. I may just go out and buy them for myself when I start working in the new year.

Speaking of Dita's books, is anyone else anticipating her Beauty Book as much as I am? Does anyone know when it's supposed to be released? That's a book I won't be waiting to buy that's for sure!

The Best Interview of Dita I Have Seen...

I HAD to share this video I found here the other day.

It is easily the most candid and real I have ever seen Dita be in an interview.

Enjoy!

Sunglasses

I love a good pair of sunglasses. (btw...lamest post name ever...I just didn't know what else to call this one) I wear mine all year round. Summer is a no brainer, but I've got to have sunglasses in the winter too. Too much light reflected off the snow. Makes me squinty.

I tend to buy cheaper sunglasses as I am hard on them (I like to throw them haphazardly into my purse when I'm not wearing them...it's bad, I know...I can't stop) and go through a pair or two a year. Sunglasses are also a great way to update your look without spending a fortune. And I like that.

I showed you my newest pair yesterday. I'm quite smitten with them.

They reminded me of two very stylish ladies:

What would you have named this post? Happy Tuesday!
